Calcium Carbonate | Calcium Magnesium Dolomite. Glass Manufacturing Wouldn’t Be the Same Without It.
GLC Minerals produces minerals for the glass industry including calcium carbonate and calcium magnesium dolomite. Our GlasCal and GlasDolo products offer ideal sizing and chemistry for glass manufacturing.
Glass Manufacturing Ingredients Include
- Soda Ash
- Limestone (Calcium Carbonate) like GlasCal
- Dolomite (Calcium Magnesium Carbonate) like GlasDolo
- Recycled glass
In glass making, these ingredients are added to the glass furnace at over 3,000 degrees F. Soda ash reduces the melting point of sand and saves energy during manufacturing. Then glass ingredients like sand, GlasCal (limestone) and GlasDolo (dolomite) are added. Recycled glass may also be added to the furnace.
Ground limestone and ground dolomite are used as stabilizers to improve mechanical properties and the physical appearance of glass and glass products, including hardening and durability.
Commercial Glass Making Methods
Commercial glass is made by one of two main processes–float glass or glass blowing. GLC Minerals’ GlasCal and GlasDolo can be used in both processes.
Float glass is used to produce flat glass for windowpanes and structural glass, automotive glass, mirrors. Glassblowing is used for drinking glasses, bottles and other containers.
Glass manufacturers purchase GlasDolo and GlasCal from GLC Minerals for their raw materials. GLC Minerals is ISO 9001:2015 Certified and is well versed in the needs of glass manufacturers. For a quote on your ground calcium carbonate needs, contact GLC Minerals today.
