June is National Safety Month:
Nearly 30 years ago, the National Safety Council declared June as National Safety Month—a time to spotlight workplace safety and renew our commitment to protecting employees. At GLC Minerals, safety isn’t just a checklist. It’s a deeply embedded part of our culture—shaped by our values, driven by our people, and strengthened through continuous improvement.
Studies show that most workplace incidents stem from unsafe behaviors—taking shortcuts, distractions, or disregarding procedures. Traditional safety training often emphasizes compliance, but at GLC, we asked a different question: What if we focused on behaviors instead of just rules?
That’s why in 2022, GLC Minerals formally introduced Behavior Based Safety (BBS) to every employee. Behavior based safety culture at GLC Minerals targets the root cause of unsafe actions and helps team members recognize how their decisions impact safety. The result? Better awareness, smarter choices, and safer outcomes.
The GLC Executive Team fully committed to the BBS initiative by dedicating resources and encouraging collaboration across departments. Together, we built the foundation of a lasting safety culture, centered around our Seven Pillars:
1. Executive Commitment
Our leadership leads by example. By investing time, resources, and attention into our safety initiatives, they show that safety is a top priority from the top down.
2. Safety & Health Champions
Each department and shift is represented by a safety champion—an empowered leader who encourages their peers to lead with safety in mind.
3. Manager Involvement
Our managers are active participants in building safer work environments. Their engagement ensures that safety isn’t just a program—it’s a daily practice.
4. Proactive Safety Climate
“Be Positive” isn’t just a value—it’s a mindset. We foster open communication and trust, allowing all employees to raise concerns and contribute ideas for improvement.
5. Effective Safety Team
Our Safety Team provides a platform for creative thinking, feedback, and collaborative problem-solving. It’s one of our most effective tools for continuous safety innovation.
6. Continuous Safety Training
Training doesn’t stop after onboarding. We focus on daily improvement and ongoing education, empowering employees to grow in both safety practices and personal development.
7. Safe Work Expectations
Our Safety Team regularly reviews tasks, identifies hazards, and updates procedures based on job hazard analyses and incident reviews—ensuring safe performance is the norm.
GLC’s safety culture is built on trust, empowerment, and accountability. Every employee is encouraged to take ownership of safety and contribute to an environment where people look out for one another.
Today, we don’t just respond to incidents—we prevent them. We don’t just talk about safety—we live it.
As of June 1, 2025, GLC Minerals proudly celebrates 1,237 days without a Lost Time Incident.
This milestone isn’t just a number. It’s a reflection of our people, our values, and our commitment to doing the right thing—every shift, every day.
