GLC Minerals Featured in The Business News

The Business News recently highlighted GLC Minerals in their article titled GLC Minerals steps in to assist with gypsum backlog. This is a feature on the drastic impact the partial closure of the Port of Baltimore had on the industrial mineral supply chain, specifically gypsum. The Port of Baltimore is the nation’s leading supplier of the mineral gypsum. Needless to say, when the Francis Scott Bridge collapsed and the port was unable to fully operate, the United States was facing a serious deficit. To aid in the backlog of orders, GLC Minerals contacted the Port of Baltimore offering support until they are fully functioning again.

GLC Minerals supporting the east coast

Situated on the Port of Green Bay, GLC Minerals sources minerals from around the Great Lakes and has been the leading supplier of gypsum to the Midwest. It’s a tall order attempting to match the capacity of a port the size of Baltimore that utilizes ships and freightliners, but GLC is up to the task. Primarily using trucks to transport, the mineral manufacturer is positioned along the Canadian National Railroad, making rail cars an option as well. They have already begun sending orders to the East Coast.

The Importance of Gypsum

Gypsum is a mineral that is utilized in a multitude of industries. Construction projects need it to increase the durability of cement, paints, coatings, adhesives and more. With the construction industry already facing a multitude of obstacles, sourcing gypsum should not be added to the list. Farmers use gypsum to improve the yield of their crop. Dairy farmers use gypsum to improve the health of their herd.

Many wouldn’t think about the way these minerals contribute to so many different industries and products, but a gypsum shortage could have a significant impact. GLC Minerals is proud to be filling the gap for the nation while the Port of Baltimore is in need.
