GLC Minerals Names Doug Webel, Ph.D., as Chief Executive Officer

Doug Webel PhD, GLC Minerals CEO

GREEN BAY, Wis. — GLC Minerals announced that Doug Webel, Ph.D., has been named Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Webel succeeds Wesley (Wes) Garner, fifth‑generation owner of GLC Minerals, who served as Interim Chief Executive Officer following the retirement of the company’s previous CEO.

Garner will continue his active ownership role and close collaboration with the leadership team, providing continuity and strategic oversight as GLC enters its next phase of growth.

Webel brings more than 25 years of executive leadership experience across animal nutrition and agricultural biosciences, with a track record of building and scaling agribusinesses by aligning scientific rigor, operational discipline, and customer‑driven innovation. His career has focused on strengthening organizations from the inside out—developing people, advancing products and processes, and expanding market reach without losing sight of customer outcomes.

“Doug brings the right combination of scientific credibility, executive leadership, and values‑based decision‑making. He understands what our customers need today and how to position GLC for the future. I’m excited to support him as we build the next chapter together.” – Wes Garner, Owner & Chairman of GLC Minerals

Raised on a working farm that raised pigs from birth to market, Webel combines deep production‑agriculture roots with a career dedicated to translating science into practical, real‑world solutions. He holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Animal Science and Comparative Nutrition from the University of Illinois at Urbana‑Champaign.

Webel began his professional career as a swine nutritionist in 1998 and spent nearly three decades with United Animal Health, where he held leadership roles spanning research and development, emerging technologies, and global operations. In 2015, he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer, leading the organization through sustained growth, expanded international presence, and closer alignment between innovation, manufacturing, and customer performance.

During the leadership transition, Garner served as Interim CEO, working closely with the executive team to maintain momentum, operational stability, and a strong customer focus.

“Serving as Interim CEO reinforced my confidence in the strength of GLC’s culture, people, and long‑term potential,” said Wesley Garner, Owner and Chairman of GLC Minerals. “Doug brings the right combination of scientific credibility, executive leadership, and values‑based decision‑making. He understands what our customers need today and how to position GLC for the future. I’m excited to support him as we build the next chapter together.”

Initial Leadership Focus

As Chief Executive Officer, Webel’s initial focus will center on listening and learning by engaging employees and customers to understand what is working well at GLC and where the company can continue to sharpen execution and expand impact. His near‑term priorities include:

  • Strengthening customer relationships across agriculture, animal nutrition, and industrial markets
  • Enhancing operational effectiveness across manufacturing, quality, and supply chain functions
  • Leveraging existing products, research, and capabilities to pursue new market opportunities
  • Aligning teams around execution, accountability, and continuous improvement

“GLC Minerals has earned trust over generations by doing the right things the right way,” said Webel. “My priority is to build on that foundation by listening first, learning from the team and our customers, and ensuring we’re positioned to grow responsibly while delivering real value. I’m honored by Wes’s confidence and excited to work alongside the GLC team.”

Webel and his wife, Nicole, have been married for more than 27 years and have three children, all pursuing degrees in animal science.
